The costs quoted for Cataract surgery are about twice current "average" cash price (the minority), and about quadruple current "Medicare" price (which is the majority). W R M MD United Surgical recently billed my Insurance company (United American) $6369 for the facility where my cataract removal was performed. They paid $4900 which represent 80% of the remainder after my $500 deductible responsibility. The surgeon billed $3000 , which they paid 100%, plus $995 for the anesthesia. The total received by them was $10,584. This amount is in contrast with a $2700 amount they told me was their charge prior to scheduling surgery. The $6369 amount for their facility actually billed was made known to me to me 15 minutes before surgery and it was, sign a note for it or you don't get surgery. Dale N.
