Hospital Room Charges

A hospital room equipped for the care and observation of patients immediately following surgery or used for simple procedures. Fees are for a 24 hour period. Prices should be prorated for partial days. Please be aware that a room set up for observation of a patient after surgery is not considered a private room but is usually referred to as PACU or post anesthesia care unit A private or semi-private room is where a patient is sent after being recovered in the PACU (recovery room) for continued care until discharge from the hospital. My father was admitted to Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN in January this year, following an emergency trip during the night. His condition improved without surgery or difficult treatments, and now he has a bill. The room charge, for a semi-private room, on his bill is $1768.00 per night. He did not require special nursing care, and was discharged after 3 days.

Wanted you to know that I just got out of the hospital where I had a private room that was not at all spiffy, 'fresh' or even that clean, and the price was 2,688$ per day - significantly higher than your range. This was in Santa Cruz, California.
