Surgery Overseas - Medical Tourism |
Save Money and Enjoy a Vacation. One option for patients looking for an alternative to expensive surgery in the US is to have it done overseas. I don't recommend this option and would advise you to do your homework and get plenty of recommendations before seeking overseas surgery as an alternative to having it done in the US. The savings are definetly there. A hip replacement in the US can cost upwards of $43,000. Overseas it can cost as little as $7,100. That's roughly what it would cost you in India! There are other alternatives as well. You could have the operation performed in New Zealand for roughly $15,000 and use your savings to make a little vacation out of it while you are recovering.
There are horror stories about having surgery overseas but there are also successes. Some insurance companies have programs available to work with hospitals overseas and can help you arrange your surgery.
Here is a sample of some of the procedures and the average prices you can expect to pay. The data is from the Medical Tourism Assoc.
